Medical underwriting update

We’ve continued to improve the online medical underwriting experience for our members, which launched in February of this year. Your spouse can now complete their underwriting forms and requirements by logging in to the member site. They will also now receive all notifications through email. These updates further increase flexibility and convenience for you and improve underwriting turnaround times. These enhancements also allow you to update your smoker status at any time through the member site.

Alberta Blue Cross® teams up with United Way to make a Period Promise Pledge

In celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, we teamed up with the United Way to sign and sponsor their Period Promise Pledge. Period Promise is a multi-levelled approach to address period poverty in our communities. By working with governments, businesses, schools and other organizations, the United Way wants to address period poverty and access to menstruation products for vulnerable people while fighting stigma around menstruation. Almost 1 quarter of people who menstruate in Canada say they have struggled to afford menstrual products for themselves or their children. Our first step in joining this pledge is to provide free menstrual products in our workplace and encourage other organizations to do the same.

Keeping young adults in touch with their health and wellbeing

The Young Adult plan is the first health and dental plan developed specifically for those 18 to 29 years old. When your adult-aged child has their own benefit plan, they’re more likely to stay in touch with their health providers. Once your child is no longer eligible for coverage under your benefit plan, they can easily transition from your plan to the Young Adult plan. Or if they are already without benefits, they can seamlessly apply. With guaranteed acceptance, this plan is designed to help your child maintain and support their health—giving you peace of mind knowing they’re protected.

Let’s build something together

Alberta Blue Cross® is excited to bring back its Built Together grant program in 2023. This year marks 10 years since the inception of this program, which awards five $50,000 grants for healthy living infrastructure projects across Alberta in one of each of the following areas: Edmonton, Calgary, a secondary city, a rural community and an Indigenous community. Built Together has provided more than $2 million in funding support to 43 projects across the province including outdoor gyms, cycling paths, playgrounds, skate parks, sports courts and outdoor rinks.

Introducing our new Community Wellbeing grant program

We’re celebrating our 75th anniversary with a new grant program to recognize exceptional volunteers across the province. Through this new Community Wellbeing grant program, we’re awarding 75 outstanding volunteers with $1,000 each in recognition of their contributions to community wellbeing. But that’s not all. An additional $1,000 will also be given to the charitable, non-profit or community-based organizations these volunteers work with.
