Four common questions we get from small businesses

2019 Canada Winter Games

We get a lot of questions every day from small businesses wondering about benefit plans. While we know every business is different, we wanted to share a few of the common questions we get. If you’re a small business looking for a benefit plan, the answers below might help answer some of your questions.

Do benefit plans really matter to employees?

They definitely do! In fact, a survey by Sanofi-aventis revealed that many employees value having good benefits over being given more cash. The survey polled 1,598 people who currently have health benefit coverage through their employer. When asked if they would rather keep their benefits coverage or receive $10,000, 59 per cent said that they would rather keep their benefits coverage. Good benefits are important to maintaining your workforce.

I only have a few employees. Is it worth it for me to get a benefits plan?

We've provided coverage to employers with as few as two employees. There are many factors to consider when getting benefits, but rest assured that if it’s something you are interested in doing then there is a plan out there for you—no matter how big or small your business is. Your employees are your most valuable asset, so helping them stay healthy and productive directly supports the health of your business!

We don’t have any human resources staff. Is it hard to administrate a plan?

Not at all. Most benefit carriers, ourselves included, work to keep administration as simple as possible. With our plans, much of the administration can be done online and employees are able to sign in, submit claims and get information and assistance directly from us without having to go to their employer.

We’re worried about the cost. Is it going to be too expensive for us?

Just like every business is unique, so are benefit plans. There are a variety of options that can be customized to help keep your plan affordable while providing your business with solid coverage. While we recognize that cost can be a challenge, we do our best to make it into a challenge that can be overcome.
