Alberta Blue Cross understands the importance of offering our employees a supportive and healthy workplace and opportunities for personal and professional growth. We show our employees we value them and their wellbeing by offering the following.
Comprehensive and flexible benefit plan
Alberta Blue Cross group benefit plans always evolve along with the changing needs and interests of Albertans. The benefit plan for our employees is no exception.
Employees have the option of choosing from three different benefit plans, Gold, Silver or Bronze—each with differing health and dental categories (making for nine options in total). Each option offers a different level of benefit coverage and a different number of spending account credits that can be allocated to health and/or wellness spending accounts.
Our benefits include the following:
- Prescription drug coverage
- Dental coverage
- Extended health coverage
- 30-Day emergency travel insurance
- Local Authorities Pension Plan
- Health Spending Account (HSA) or Wellness Spending Account (WSA) options
- Weekly indemnity disability coverage
- Short-term and long-term disability coverage
- Group life insurance
- Dependent life insurance
- Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage
- Optional group life insurance and optional AD&D
Family care days
Alberta Blue Cross recognizes that family illnesses do occur and that it's important for our employees to be able to respond effectively. That is why we have set aside time for family care days.
On-site fitness classes—such as interval training and yoga—take place daily at our head office in Edmonton. All employees are welcome to participate.
Alberta Blue Cross believes in providing its employees with opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. This includes on-the-job training, in-house training, conferences and seminars, and company-paid educational courses taken at outside educational institutions.
Employee Assistance Program
Life's circumstances can sometimes create significant personal problems for employees, which if left unmanaged can affect job performance, health and well-being. Alberta Blue Cross provides employees with a free, independent, confidential counseling service to support them and their eligible dependents through difficult times. Help is available for work-related stress, marital or family problems, life crises and bereavement, and many other types of personal difficulties.
Our employee-run Staff Association provides staff with opportunities to get to know each other in fun and informal settings. Events take place almost every month and include adult and children's Christmas parties, a bowling night and much more.
Both Alberta Blue Cross and its employees are active in supporting the community. As an organization we encourage and provide financial support to numerous charitable projects, from Casual for a Cause days to Hearts of Blue, our employee-run charity.
