Alberta Blue Cross receives two awards at the 2012 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction
On Friday, March 2, Alberta Blue Cross received the prestigious Premier’s Award of Distinction from Alberta Chambers of Commerce at the 2012 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction. The Premier’s Award of Distinction is awarded to a company that best exhibits outstanding achievement and leadership in Alberta, and demonstrates ongoing, consistent involvement in community events and organizations. Alberta Blue Cross received this award based on its passion about making a genuine difference in communities across Alberta, as well as its long-standing commitment to community involvement—a credit to the spirit of giving, generosity and volunteerism of its employees.
Alberta Blue Cross also received the Employer of Youth Award of Distinction. This award is given to an organization that has demonstrated outstanding achievement in hiring youth and providing them with career-oriented opportunities. Alberta Blue Cross hires forty summer students each year who are exposed to a variety of training and career development opportunities, while also being mentored by management or long-term employees. Alberta Blue Cross’s focus on promoting within the company allows younger employees to meet new challenges and opportunities while retaining the stability of a single employer.
The Alberta Business Awards of Distinction, held in February or March each year, is the most influential business awards program presented in the province. Recognizing excellence in Alberta’s business community, the awards gala is attended annually by approximately 400 business leaders.
