Alberta Blue Cross® is pleased to administer a variety of programs on behalf of the Government of Alberta.

The Government of Alberta offers Alberta Blue Cross® Non-Group Coverage to ensure all Albertans have access to an economical supplementary health benefits program which provides coverage for a variety of health related services not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). Alberta Blue Cross® administers Non-Group Coverage on behalf of Alberta Health.

The Government of Alberta provides seniors with premium-free coverage for prescription drugs and other health-related services not covered under the AHCIP. Effective March 1, 2020, seniors' family members under 65 years of age are no longer eligible for the Coverage for Seniors program. If you have any questions, please contact the AHCIP office. For further information on the Coverage for Seniors program please visit the Alberta Health website.

The Optical Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and provides low-to-moderate-income seniors with financial assistance for optical services that help maintain a reasonable level of health. You could be eligible to up to a maximum of $230 every three years for prescription eyeglasses under the Optical program. Alberta Blue Cross® administers this program on behalf of Alberta Health.
