If you get sick or injured while travelling, call our 24-hour travel assistance services before you begin treatment. They can help you find a doctor and get you home in the event of a medical emergency.

If you call after you are hospitalized or receive medical consultation, that may result in your claim being denied.

Medical evacuation or air ambulance services will be covered if:

  • the treatment is medically necessary
  • ordered by the attending physician or travel assistance provider, and approved by your government health plan provider or Alberta Blue Cross®

It covers costs for travel between hospitals or hospital admission into your Canadian province or territory of residence. If the air ambulance benefit is used, the unused portion of your air ticket must be surrendered to us.

If the attending physician or travel assistance service provider specifies in writing that you need to return to Canada for immediate treatment, we will reimburse you for the purchase of one-way economy airfare on a commercial flight.

You can extend both single-trip and multi-trip plans. Give us a call at 1-800-394-1965 and we can help. Learn more about travel insurance coverage options.

There are different travel forms you can use to submit expenses for a medical emergency, a cancelled or interrupted trip, and lost baggage. Visit the Forms page to search for travel forms.
