Who to contact in an emergency

In the event of a medical emergency outside Alberta, contact must be made with our travel assistance service. This service offers trained medical personnel ready to assist you 24 hours per day and direct 24-hour-a-day access to Alberta Blue Cross for coverage verification.

In addition to coverage verification, our travel assistance service offers assistance in locating an appropriate provider for treatment. They also provide emergency response in most major languages, coordinate payment to a provider of service, monitor medical treatment and arrange transportation/evacuation in the event of a medical emergency.

If you require hospitalization or medical evacuation services, you must contact the travel assistance service prior to treatment/service in order for your coverage to be in force. If initial efforts to contact the assistance service are unsuccessful, please proceed with treatment as medically required, and continue with attempts to make contact as soon as possible.

For medical emergencies and general travel inquiries

Our travel assistance service can be contacted at 1-888-772-2583 from within Canada and USA.

For calls from all other countries, or if there is any difficulty with the previous toll free number, call collect at 1-403-225-4289

Please have travel plan ID numbers available when you call. These numbers can be found on the back of your ID card.
